How Much Does the Pneumonia Vaccine Cost? Prevenar 20 Prices Explained (2026)
October 15, 2026
5 minute read
The pneumonia vaccine we offer, the Prevenar 20 pneumonia vaccine, costs £100 at Ealing Travel Clinic. For most adults that is the whole cost, because one dose is enough and UK guidance does not recommend a routine booster. This page explains what the price covers, the few situations where you would pay again, what to check when you compare prices, and how to plan other vaccines at the same visit.
What is included in the £100?
| Consultation with our clinical team | Included. We check your health, medicines and any previous pneumonia vaccines. |
| One dose of Prevenar 20 | Included. Protects against 20 pneumococcal strains. |
| Your vaccination record | Included, so you always know when you had it. |
| Advice on other vaccines | Included. We help you plan timing with flu, COVID-19, shingles or whooping cough vaccines. |
Why it is usually a one-off cost
Prevenar 20 is a conjugate vaccine. It trains your immune system to remember the bacteria, so most adults need only a single dose. UK guidance does not recommend a repeat dose for most people.
People with no working spleen, sickle cell disease or chronic kidney disease lose their antibodies faster, so UK guidance recommends a repeat dose every five years, and we offer these at the same £100. Even then, £100 every five years works out at around £20 a year of protection.

What to check when you compare pneumonia vaccine prices
“Pneumonia vaccine” is a loose term, and prices are only comparable when you are comparing like with like. Before you book anywhere, ask:
- Which vaccine is it? It could be Prevenar 20, a conjugate vaccine covering 20 strains, or Pneumovax 23, an older polysaccharide vaccine covering 23 strains. They work differently.
- Is the consultation included? Ours is.
- Will I need more than one dose? With Prevenar 20, most adults need only one.
- How soon can I be seen? We often have same-day appointments.
Is the pneumonia vaccine worth paying for?
That depends on your risk. Serious pneumococcal infection can mean pneumonia needing hospital treatment, sepsis or meningitis. There were 5,080 confirmed serious cases in England between July 2023 and June 2024, and older adults and people with long-term conditions are most at risk.
It is most worth considering if you are 65 or over, have a long-term heart, lung, liver or kidney condition, diabetes treated with medication or a weakened immune system, or smoke. Many people in their 50s choose it too, because two of the strains Prevenar 20 added most often affect people in their mid to late fifties. Adding other vaccines at the same visit
UK guidance says pneumococcal vaccines can be given at the same time as other vaccines, in a different arm, and we are happy to give Prevenar 20 alongside your flu, COVID-19 or shingles vaccine. Many people use one appointment to get several protections done:
- Shingles vaccine: two doses at £220 each (£440 for the course), the second 2 to 6 months after the first. Read more about our shingles vaccination.
- Whooping cough booster (Repevax): £65, popular with grandparents before a new baby arrives. See our whooping cough vaccine guide.
- Flu or COVID-19 vaccines: Prevenar 20 can be given alongside them. Fever and chills are a little more common when it is given with a COVID-19 vaccine, and for people at very high risk we may suggest spacing it from the flu vaccine.
Our clinical team will confirm which vaccines suit you, and whether to give them together or space them out.
