Both are spread by tick bites, but they’re completely different diseases. TBE is caused by a virus, and there’s an effective vaccine. Lyme disease is caused by a bacterium, and there’s no approved human vaccine available in Europe — the only protection is avoiding tick bites. This is why bite prevention measures remain important even after TBE vaccination.
